Ottawa Rideau Comes to Lennox & Addington

By Shirley Munro, Regional Communications Coordinator

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day- lost of sunshine, good company, good food, and excellent hosts… except for… tire problems! Something all of us can understand, and always at the most inconvenient time… right?

As you can imagine, our little delay with the bus caused us to make a few changes to our plans. We cannot than the Kaiser family enough for their understand of the situation. To save the day, Max and Eric very kindly agreed to provide us with a picnic area. Thanks to Charlene Whattan and Steve Holmes for taking care of the arrangements for the delicious pizza!

Kaiser Lake Farms

Eric Kaiser has been farming Kaiser Lake Farms on Hay
Bay in the beautiful Quinte region of Ontario, since 1969.

Max, Eric’s son has been farming Kaiser Lake Farms since
1992, and this year Max’s son, Rob joined the operation
full time. They produce eggs and pullets, feed and cash crops.

Eric and Max have observed their land and working with
the land, learned to manage everything they can, using
crop rotation, grassed waterways and no-till soil management, leaving the weather as the only unknown factor.

The Kaisers’ farm sustainably by
cycling nutrients between the chickens
and crops. Only a minimum
amount of additional inputs are
needed to makeup for what the
crops remove and the chickens cannot
give back!

Something else the Kaisers value
very highly is their relationship with
their neighbors. Happy neighbors
are understanding neighbors!

Following the stop at Kaiser Lake farms, the tour continued to the MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Company in Bath, ON. Thanks to all participants for visiting us in Quinte Region!
